Community leadership,
grounded in service.

Haji Abid Hussain is president of the Overseas Pakistanis Welfare Council. Working alongside founder and chairman Naeem Naqshbandi, he helps bring people together through community gatherings, welfare activity and engagement with Pakistani institutions.

His community work

His contribution

A welcoming space.
A shared purpose.

For Haji Abid, bringing the community together has meant creating opportunities to meet, participate and be heard.

He runs Abid Catering Services and Slough’s Elite Banqueting Suite. His catering work serves weddings, family occasions and community gatherings across Slough and the wider region, bringing practical hospitality experience to his community role.

He has hosted gatherings in Britain and Pakistan where overseas Pakistanis can engage directly with community leaders and representatives of public institutions. Those occasions range from Independence Day celebrations in Slough to conversations with OPF and the Pakistan High Commission.

During the pandemic, he contributed to OPWC’s food support for frontline workers—an effort recognised by the High Commissioner. As part of OPWC’s leadership, he has helped raise the everyday concerns of families living across borders.

frontline teams.

As the first COVID-19 lockdown put essential services under pressure, Abid Catering Services delivered food to local Police and NHS staff. The team also provided meals for ambulance staff and described its support as a weekly effort.

These deliveries brought the catering team’s skills into community service, alongside Haji Abid’s contribution to OPWC’s wider food-support work.
